Cosmetic injections – a guide for first-timers

If you’re new to cosmetic injections and have never had any kind of aesthetic treatment before, you might be feeling a little nervous.

Maybe you’re curious about what kind of results you’ll see, or want to understand more about what to expect before, during and after your treatment. If so, you’re not alone!

Lots of people feel this way before they embark on an aesthetic treatment, so don’t worry. Research shows that on average it takes a person 5 years to commit to going ahead with a non-surgical cosmetic treatment – often due to misconceptions based on media hype around over-filled lips and an ‘unnatural’ appearance which is actually the opposite of what most practitioners aim to achieve.

In this guide we’ll share some helpful tips and guidance to help you decide whether non-surgical cosmetic procedures are right for you, and to help you prepare for an upcoming treatment.

1/ Research first

First things first, take some time before deciding on which treatments might be best for you and do a little research online to understand what’s out there, and what results each treatment can achieve. There are so many different options available now – and both dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections are incredibly versatile and can be used in a number of different ways to achieve a desired effect. Taking a look at what’s available first can help you to come prepared at your initial consultation and have a better understanding of what’s involved with each treatment.

2/ Choose a reputable practitioner

Laws have certainly tightened in recent years, but there are still a number of undertrained or inexperienced practitioners out there who on occasion don’t follow the rules. I can’t stress this highly enough – it’s vitally important to find a practitioner who is fully qualified in the treatments they offer. Although anti-wrinkle injections and fillers are non-surgical, they still involve breaking the skin barrier and the risks associated with that. Opting for someone without the necessary formal qualifications or sufficient expertise could leave you with undesirable results – at worst, it could cause life-threatening complications.

There are a lot of people out there who will offer very reasonable rates for cosmetic treatments – which can be tempting. But often behind the low price tag are low quality treatments performed using non-genuine products which can quickly fade over time, causing you to spend more money in the long-term to retain your desired result. You need to be certain that the person carrying out your treatment is fully trained to do so – and that the products they are using are genuine.

3/ Don’t skip your consultation

I understand that it can be tempting to want to dive straight into your treatment – but the consultation stage is vitally important and shouldn’t be missed. In fact, any professional practitioner should insist on meeting you first to discuss your desired results and any concerns you might have.

During your consultation, we’ll have a thorough chat about why you’re considering non-surgical cosmetic treatment and what different areas you’re looking to enhance. I’ll then talk you through which treatments will work best for you and what’s involved for each in terms of preparation before, the treatment itself as well as aftercare and results. You will also have an opportunity to ask any specific questions and receive personalised advice at this stage. Being able to do this in person ensures I can see the concerns you have and examine them closely to suggest the perfect course of treatment for you.

Of course, if you are nervous or have any further questions regarding your treatment you are always welcome to call or email us, and we’ll offer personalised advice and support.
